Description

Laia Puig. Born in Cervera (Lleida), she began her musical studies at the age of six under the tutelage of Marçal Cervera, Sergi Boadella, Richard Talkowsky, and Cristian Florea at the Conservatory of Cervera. Later, she studied at the Universities of Graz, Basel, and Berlin with Rudolf Leopold, Reinhard Latzko, and Martin Löhr, respectively. She has received guidance from Bernard Greenhouse, Maria Kliegel, Maria de Macedo, Lluís Claret, Christophe Coin, Philipe Mueller, Asier Polo, Thomas Demenga, among others. She has performed as a soloist with the Vallès Symphony Orchestra, Julià Carbonell Symphony Orchestra, Garraf Chamber Orchestra, Camerata XXI, Andrés Segovia Orchestra, Camerata Musica Wien, and has given recitals at festivals such as Berliner Cellisten 2008 and throughout Spain. Laia Puig premiered the unpublished work "Concerto Libero" by Xavier Montsalvatge at the Castell de Peralada Festival in the summer of 2012. She has been a member of the Young Symphony Orchestra of Catalonia, principal cellist of the JONDE, European Union Youth Orchestra, and Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester. She regularly collaborates with the Cadaqués Orchestra, Barcelona Symphony Orchestra, National Orchestra of Catalonia, Symphony Orchestra of the Gran Teatre del Liceu, Da Camera Orchestra, Barcelona 216, Konzerthaus Orchester Berlin, Symphony Orchestra of Euskadi, and Simfonieorchester Basel. During the 2008/09 season, she was hired by the Castilla y León Symphony Orchestra as assistant principal cellist. Throughout her career, she has worked with prestigious conductors such as Claudio Abbado, Carlo Maria Giulini, Sir Colin Davis, Vladimir Ashkenazy, Bernhard Haitink, Pierre Boulez, Sir Neville Marriner, among others. She has been awarded numerous times in competitions such as Germans Claret, National Competition City of Játiva, International Competition of Llanes, and First Palau de Barcelona. Live recordings of her recitals for Catalunya Música have been broadcast by the European Broadcasting Union. She participated in the recording of "Pau i Victòria" performing the work of Pau Casals (Columna Música). As an educator, she regularly collaborates with the National Youth Orchestra of Catalonia (JONC), is a frequent invited member of youth competition juries, and conducts masterclasses throughout the country. Currently, she balances performance with teaching at the Superior Conservatory of Music of Aragón (CSMA). She is a founding member of the Trio Freixas alongside violinist Tatekiv Khachatryan and pianist Alba Ventura. She was principal cellist and artistic director of Camerata432 from 2009 to 2016 and a founding member of the cello quartet Les Mademoicelli.
