XAVIER PUERTAS | Double bass course

Xavier Puertas. He was born in Barcelona and received his musical training at the Municipal Conservatory of Barcelona and the Wiener Konservatorium with bass professors Ferran Sala and Andrew Ackerman, respectively.

As an orchestral musician, he has been a member of the OBC (Barcelona Symphony Orchestra and National Orchestra of Catalonia) and has played with groups such as the Chamber Orchestra of the Teatre Lliure and the Grupo Enigma, later specializing in the performance of baroque music with original instruments and playing with groups such as the Baroque Orchestra of Catalonia, Le Concert Français, Ricercar Consort, Concentus Musicus Wien, Baroque Orchestra of Seville, Al Ayre Español, and other specialized groups. Since 1998, he has played with Jordi Savall's groups Le Concert des Nations and Hesperion XXI.

He began his professional life teaching this instrument at the Conservatory of Cervera in 1994, a city where he resides and still teaches today. He also teaches at the Escolania de Montserrat, the Aula de Música Antiga of the Conservatory of Girona, and various summer courses, where he teaches classical and baroque double bass and violone to young and old. In 2020, he began working at the Superior School of Music of Catalonia (ESMUC) as a professor of historical double bass and violone.
